Sarah* came to HopeSprings Counseling Services feeling lost. Past trauma and a struggle with substance use had left her overwhelmed and unable to focus. Even understanding her doctors or making day-to-day decisions felt impossible. But with the help of our therapist Jennifer Summers—and a special approach called EMDR therapy—Sarah began to find hope again.
EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a research-supported therapy that helps people recover from traumatic events. Using gentle back-and-forth movements, like eye movements, tapping, or sounds, EMDR helps the brain “unstick” painful memories and process them in a healthier way.
Jennifer combined EMDR with mindfulness and meditation to help Sarah feel calm and present in her body. With each session, Sarah’s mind became clearer.
“She told me she felt sharper, more focused and could finally understand hard information—even her medical reports,” Jennifer shared. “The intense emotional weight of her past began to lift, allowing her to move forward.”
Today, Sarah is reclaiming her life. Her story is just one example of how EMDR supports healing at both the emotional and physical level—and how closely the mind and body are connected.
At HopeSprings, we help people and families live better lives. Thanks to the support of friends like you, we’re able to offer innovative, evidence-based therapies like EMDR that meet people right where they are—with compassion, expertise and hope.
If you or someone you love is struggling with the weight of past trauma, please reach out. Healing is possible—and at HopeSprings, it’s already begun.
